Since Barry Larkin retired after the 2004 season, six players have filled his spot as the Cincinnati Reds shortstop. Sure-handed veteran Alex Gonzalez is the latest to try the position. The Reds signed Gonzalez to a three-year, $14 million deal in November, hoping that one of the American League’s top defensive shortstops can solidify one of the National League’s worst defenses.
