Reds say ready to drop veteran LHP Stanton (AP)
The Cincinnati Reds plan to cut 40-year-old reliever Mike Stanton. Manager Dusty Baker and general manager Wayne Krivsky said the club discussed the plans with Stanton on Friday as they worked on final roster moves before Monday’s opener. The left-hander, due $3 million this year, will be designated for assignment.

Volquez pitches well in Reds’ 5-3 win over Phillies (AP)
Edinson Volquez all but assured himself a spot in the Cincinnati Reds’ starting rotation. Volquez pitched five strong innings, Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run single and the Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 on Tuesday.
